Editing and proofreading FAQs

  • I can tailor my editing services to your needs. The services I offer include developmental editing, copy editing and proofreading. Not sure what the differences are? Have a look at the CIEP’s page about proofreading and editing for a quick ex

  • It very much depends on the size and complexity of the project. I would typically proofread 2000–2,500 words an hour and copy edit 800–1,000 words an hour, but timings would vary depending on how many changes or corrections are required.

  • I have several years of in-house editing experience and am a College of Media and Publishing qualified editor. I am a member of the Chartered Institute for Editing and Proofreading and am always improving my professional knowledge with their courses. I also have a PhD in English and have written and co-edited traditionally published books. See my About me page for further details.

  • Detailed feedback and suggestions are part of the editing process. My aim is to enhance clarity, coherence and consistency. I provide everything in track changes and with comments so you can decide to revert to your original text if you do not agree with my edits.

  • This varies depending on the size and scope of the project. Usually I offer one or two rounds of editing per project, but the exact number of revision rounds will be specified in the brief and agreed in our contract. If you want more later on then these will be charged separately.

  • Your privacy is my priority, and my editing agreement contains a confidentiality clause to back that up. If needed, I will also sign a non-disclosure agreement to safeguard your ideas.

  • Costs will depend on the size and scope of the project. I offer clear pricing structures to fit your project’s needs and budget. Payments are usually made in instalments at agreed points before and after final delivery. I charge per hour for editing services, which covers a word count of 2,000–2,500 words per hour for proofreading and 800–1,000 per hour for copy editing, but this varies depending on the complexity of the project.
